China's CBDC wallet relies on an age-old tradition to increase adoption.

The digital yuan wallet app now includes a traditional Chinese method of gifting money that has gone virtual with the rise of digital payments. China's wallet app for its digital yuan central bank digital currency (CBDC) introduced a feature for users to send money in an electronic version of traditional "red packets" to try to attract new users. The new feature was unveiled over the weekend, roughly one month before the Chinese New Year on January 22, according to the South China Morning Post on December 26. The "red packets," known as hongbao in China, are traditionally used for gifting money during Chinese New Year and other celebrations as a good luck gesture. With the increased use of digital payments, popular local services such as WeChat Pay and Alipay have begun to offer virtual red envelopes. According to reports, the e-CNY app allows a single red packet to be sent to a single person, or a "lucky draw" for a group of people to receive a random...

Staking ETH on popular exchanges contributes to Ethereum censorship.

The use of censoring MEV relays by crypto ecosystems and exchanges is one of the most significant factors undermining Ethereum's credibility. Compliance with federal sanctions has a negative impact on the global reach of most crypto ecosystems. When it comes to Ethereum, however, investors wield significant power over the ecosystem's level of compliance. Almost 60% of all post-Merge Ethereum blocks adhere to US sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). While the crypto community is opposed to this transformation, many are unaware of their own contribution to helping Ethereum achieve total OFAC compliance. The use of censoring Miner extractable value (MEV) relays by crypto ecosystems and exchanges is one of the most significant factors undermining Ethereum's credibility. MEV relays, which are used by prominent crypto players such as Binance, Celsius Network, Coinbase, Kraken, and Cream Finance, act as a mediator between block producers and block build...

Councils in England will get £60 billion in funding.

Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, announced today, December 19, 2022, that councils in England will get almost £60 billion for the next financial year. This money will help councils keep providing important frontline services. The settlement will give councils in England an extra 5 billion, which is a 9% increase over last year's settlement. This shows that the government continues to support councils and public services in the face of financial pressures. The agreement for next year includes a one-time Funding Guarantee that says every council in England will get at least a 3% increase in core spending power before any local decisions are made about council tax. Along with this, the government is today confirming a new £100 million scheme for councils to protect the most vulnerable households from council tax increases. This fulfills the promise made in the election campaign to protect local taxpayers from excessive increases. Social care is also a top priorit...

Argentina's World Cup coincides yet again with excessive inflation.

As Argentina prepares for Sunday's World Cup final, annual inflation in the country is expected to hit 99% this month, with economists expecting it to approach three figures soon, according to Bloomberg. In 1986, when Diego Maradona led the Albiceleste to victory, inflation averaged 116%. According to central bank data and surveys, the rate was 176% in 1978, when Argentina won the tournament it hosted. Lionel Messi, born a year after the 1986 triumph and widely regarded as the heir to Diego Maradona's legendary fame, will make his final World Cup game against France. The team's run to the last match — from averting early elimination to earning five straight wins — has thrilled a nation that is once again struggling economically. However, the country's consistent economic feature is not a predictor of the country's World Cup success. With hyperinflation of roughly 2,000% at the time, the team lost the 1990 final. When it lost the 2014 final, the official rate was onl...

In 2023, the pace of economic growth in Malaysia is expected to slow.

Economists predicted Thursday that the Malaysian economy would stall in 2023 due to difficult external conditions and weakening domestic demand. According to Xinhua News Agency, Maybank Investment Bank Research predicted in a report that Malaysia's full-year growth would slow to 4% in 2023 from an earlier projection of 8%. This slowdown would be caused by a reduction in domestic demand. The consequences of rising inflation and interest rates on the cost of living and real disposable income are expected to dampen private consumption growth next year, according to the research firm. It also predicts a slowing of the rate of increase in private consumption to match the reduced level of funding for government operations that is included in the Budget 2023. It also noted that reduced expectations for global economic development would lead to falling exports and imports. MIDF Research, on the other hand, predicts that Malaysia's GDP growth would decrease to 4.2% in 2023, mostly due t...

Explosions have been reported in Ukraine's capital, prompting the deployment of emergency personnel.

Three explosions were reported in the center of Kyiv, as Ukraine claimed to have shot down several Iranian-made Shahed drones. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, ten Shahed drones were shot down by Ukraine's air defenses, and emergency personnel were deployed to the central Shevchenkivskyi neighborhood. "Details to follow," he said on his Telegram channel. Klitschko's assertion could not be independently verified. Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Goncharenko tweeted that he had heard three explosions around 6.30 a.m. local time (04:30 GMT). The air-raid siren went off at 5.55 a.m. (03:55 GMT), and inhabitants were advised to remain in shelters until the situation was cleared. "Ukrainians are woken up by explosions, not alarm clocks," Goncharenko stated. "Many thanks to our neighbors Russia!" Hello and good morning!" Kyiv Oblast Governor Oleksiy Kuleba stated air defense systems were activated and "striking targets." The explosions occu...

Hong Kong will eliminate the majority of bar and restaurant prohibitions in the Covid cutback.

Hong Kong will eliminate the remaining remnants of its Covid-19 restrictions, which have crippled the city's economy and eroded its position as a financial powerhouse. Beginning tomorrow, new travelers will no longer be prohibited from accessing restaurants and bars within the first three days of arrival, and residents will no longer be required to scan a tracking app in order to enter restaurants, bars, and other establishments. Hong Kong's top executive, John Lee, stated, "We have studied the facts and danger, and one of the reasons considered is that the risk posed by imported cases is actually lower than the risk of infection in the community." As a result of Beijing's U-turn on its zero-Covid policy this month, the country has abandoned a number of restrictions aimed at eradicating instances, resulting to an increase in infections. Hong Kong was never subject to the same level of restrictions as the rest of China, but it maintained its own elimination policy ...

The highest risk factor for increasing suicide rates in Australia is the high cost of living and the associated financial hardship.

According to some disturbing new data, more than one third of people living in Australia know someone who has either successfully killed themselves or attempted to kill themselves during the past year. The disturbing study was conducted by Suicide Prevention Australia, and it revealed that 38% of the 1022 persons who were polled had either a direct or indirect connection to suicide over the time period. Seventy percent of individuals reported feeling elevated levels of despair, and one in five adults reported having suicide thoughts in the previous year. Additional research conducted by the national apex authority for the prevention of suicide indicated that the most common pressures Australians reported encountering were the cost of living and personal debt, while housing-related misery was the issue that was developing the quickest. Nieves Murray, the chief executive officer of Suicide Prevention Australia, stated that the newly released data showed that housing stress had increased ...

Dar predicts positive economic growth.

On Saturday, Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stressed that despite the opposition's rhetoric, Pakistan is on the right track and will not default. Pakistan would not go into default due to the opposition's lies (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf). During a meeting with business leaders, Mr. Dar confidently assured the crowd that the country was on the right track and would not be entering default. PTI head Imran Khan and others in his party have been warning that Pakistan will fail due to the "bad policies" of the coalition government led by PML-N. According to Mr. Khan, the only way to stabilize the economy is to hold new elections and have a stable government take charge. Mr. Dar went on to say that the opposition was harming the country's "economic cause." To add insult to injury, the opposition is spreading false allegations of corruption in an effort to discourage foreign investment in the country. He stressed that PTI leaders must stop playing wit...

The Chinese economy slows down and inflation decreases as a result of the zero Covid.

In their first-ever trilateral military initiative, the UK, Japan, and Italy have agreed to jointly create one of the world's most powerful fighter jets by 2035 in response to rising security concerns from China and Russia. The Global Combat Air Programme is being built alongside a competing Franco-German-Spanish initiative, which has been dogged by political and industrial conflicts among the participants. On Friday, the United Kingdom and Italy reached an agreement to combine their separate Future Combat Air programme, known as Tempest, with Japan's F-X project. The three countries will divide up the development costs, which are expected to run into the tens of billions of dollars. However, the exact amounts each country will contribute will be determined after a thorough evaluation of the associated expenses and available funds. The leaders of the three countries said in a joint statement, "By working together in a spirit of equitable cooperation, we are sharing the exp...

FOREX-Dollar goes up a little bit, and investors look at rates and the economy.

The U.S. Treasury yields went up, which helped the dollar go up a little bit on Thursday. Investors were weighing the outlook for Federal Reserve policy against the chance that high interest rates could cause a recession. The Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the Bank of England will all be making important decisions next week. The most important question for traders and investors is whether or not inflation has reached its highest point. If it has, policymakers will have more room to raise interest rates more slowly over the next few months. Next week, one day before the Fed's policy meeting on Dec. 14, the monthly consumer inflation rate for the U.S. will be released. This could be a key factor in setting longer-term expectations for monetary policy. "Right now, U.S. CPI is the only data release that seems to really matter for the direction of the dollar as a whole," said Adam Cole, a currency strategist at RBC. "Until we get those central bank meetin...

Saxo Bank's "War Economy": 10 "Black Swans" to Watch in 2023

"The days of cheap interest rates encouraging utopian visions of a world based on renewable energy, equality, and autonomous central banks are over. In 2023, the global economy will enter a period known as "War Economy," in which national economic benefits and self-sufficiency are prioritized over participation in the global economy." Saxo Bank, which has just released its forecast on the black swans for the coming year, is that confident. Black swans are occurrences that have a large social and economic impact yet were seemingly unpredictable beforehand. However, after their occurrence, these events are studied and, through the benefit of hindsight, are revealed to have been predictable all along. Here are the ten "crazy" forecasts from a Danish bank: 1. A new "Manhattan Project" worth a trillion dollars is the result of a multibillion-dollar coalition's efforts. The world's wealthiest have banded together to fund a research and developm...

Stop the decline, dollar bulls are back

The EUR/USD pair advanced early in the week but failed spectacularly at parity, finishing at about 0.9750 with a slight weekly loss. How Can You Tell If The Wedge Is Rising?

What Does The Rising Wedge Pattern Actually Mean? The rising wedge is a frequent and predictable price reversal pattern in the bitcoin market. The pattern can provide a hint as to the range and trend of future prices. This pattern is popular among traders since it is straightforward to spot. When the price remains between support and resistance during an upswing, a rising wedge pattern forms. In this design, the slope of the support line is frequently steeper than the slope of the resistance line. This slope may indicate that higher lows formed more quickly than higher highs, resulting in the wedge-shaped structure. The phrase "rising wedge bearish" refers to the fact that a rising wedge pattern can occasionally be viewed as bearish. A rising wedge might cause the trend to reverse, keeping things negative. The pattern will move upward and follow the primary trend when it occurs as a reversal pattern. If it were a trend, however, it would continue to grow even if the slope wou...

How are you going to figure out the Wedge Pattern?

On a price chart, a wedge looks like what happens when two trend lines come together. A price series is looked at over ten to fifty years, and two trend lines are drawn to connect the series' highs and lows. As the lines reach a point where they meet, it looks like a wedge is forming because the rates at which the highs and lows are going up or down are different. The shape of a trend line is a good way to predict when prices are likely to change. Key Point Wedge patterns are usually made up of trend lines that come together over a period of 10 to 50 trading sessions. Depending on how they move, the patterns can be called "rising wedges" or "falling wedges." When it comes to predicting price changes, these patterns have a very high success rate. How to Learn About the Wedge Pattern. How to Figure Out the Wedge Pattern A wedge pattern could have shown that the price would change in either direction.
